About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Counselor to join our team at the University of Houston's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality mental health services to students, staff, and faculty, promoting a culture of care and support on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual, couples, and group counseling services, utilizing a short-term therapy framework and stepped care principles.
  • Develop and conduct workshops on coping skills for anxiety and depression, as well as other mental health topics.
  • Engage in consultation and outreach services, collaborating with campus departments to create and implement programs for the campus community.
  • Supervise and train interns, tutors, and graduate students in counseling, promoting their growth and development.
  • Perform crisis intervention and assessment, providing timely and effective support to students in need.

CAPS is a vital department within the Health and Well-Being (HWB) portfolio, working closely with our HWB partners to foster a culture of care that promotes the success of our students, faculty, and staff. We are proud to be a designated Jed Campus and aspire to be a Health Promotion University.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work, and licensure at the time of interview. Experience in a counseling center or higher education setting is preferred, but not required. We welcome applicants who can articulate how their experience can be translated to a counseling center/higher education setting.
