Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic Surgery team in Bronx, New York.
Job Summary:The Surgical Physician Assistant will provide medical services within the education, training, and experience of the PA, delegated by the supervising physician. This includes obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, formulating a diagnosis, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, assisting in surgical procedures, offering counseling and education to meet patient needs, and making appropriate referrals.
Responsibilities:- Prescribes medications for patients.
- Communicates effectively with members of the healthcare team and patients.
- Participates in a team approach to healthcare, acts as a liaison between members of the primary care team.
- Performs emergency, lifesaving procedures in the presence of life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar problems.
- Coordinates patient care in collaboration with the Attending Physician/healthcare providers.
- Performs procedures such as insertion and removal of arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Swann-Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloons, temporary pacemaker wires, renal dialysis catheters, thoracentesis, paracentesis, arthrocentesis, and lumbar puncture.
- May assist Orthopaedic Surgeons in the OR for both inpatient and ambulatory cases.
- Master's Degree from an accredited Physician's Assistant program.
- Registered as a Physician's Assistant in New York State.
- NCCPA certified.
- Automated medical information systems.
- Demonstrates the ability to administer medications to meet age and weight criteria of patients for pediatrics, adult, and geriatric age groups.
- Demonstrates knowledge of physiological and psychological patient differences in age-related groups.
