WORKING HOURS:
The Housing Intake and Advocacy Specialist is an exempt role responsible for conducting central intake screenings and assessments, providing benefits assistance, and facilitating resource and referral services for individuals seeking housing support. This position generally follows standard business hours but may require early morning, evening, or weekend work, particularly during peak seasons.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The specialist will oversee all intake and assessment procedures related to housing services, ensuring effective benefits navigation and advocacy for clients. Responsibilities include managing admissions and referrals from various sources, utilizing assessment criteria to assist individuals with their housing needs, and coordinating access to essential services such as healthcare and insurance. The role also involves rapid rehousing initiatives, including emergency stabilization and landlord network management. Accurate reporting and documentation are essential components of this position, ensuring a culturally sensitive environment for clients seeking assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the collection, review, and acceptance of applications for housing programs.
- Apply assessment criteria to determine eligibility for services.
- Collaborate with community partners to respond to referrals and provide follow-up.
- Assist clients in enrolling for benefits and accessing necessary medical and social services.
- Conduct intake screenings and interviews with applicants.
- Maintain waiting lists and perform annual updates to assess applicant status.
- Coordinate with management and staff regarding potential intakes.
- Direct clients to alternative service providers when necessary.
- Provide rapid rehousing services, including emergency stabilization efforts.
Administrative Duties:
- Register clients in the electronic database and ensure information accuracy.
- Work with grant management to process funding claims and expenses.
- Compile reports, including grant and departmental statistics.
- Ensure timely authorization for service payments and referrals.
- Establish and maintain a quality provider list for services.
- Conduct housing inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
- Facilitate educational presentations and training sessions for staff and stakeholders.
General Expectations:
- Support management and participate in team meetings.
- Communicate effectively within the department and resolve routine issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Document daily activities and prepare reports as required.
- Stay current with required competencies and training.
- Promote a welcoming atmosphere that respects cultural values.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field.
- Experience in intake, social work, or case management is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community service.
- Strong interpersonal and crisis management skills.
- Knowledge of Native American communities and cultural practices is a plus.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with a clean record.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and respond to visual and auditory cues.
