Job Summary:

Sampson Regional Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join their Health Information Management team. The selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses and procedure codes in accordance with coding guidelines. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of coding guidelines, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes
  • Work with physicians to verify accurate coding and ensure compliance with coding guidelines
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of coding guidelines, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices

Requirements:
  • Associate Degree or a minimum of two (2) years college education in Health Information Management/Technology or related field
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS) guidelines
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel/Access, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communication with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team
