Job Summary:

The Director of Deaf Services will be responsible for directing the Department's new Bureau of Services for Persons who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing to improve communication access and services. This includes overseeing ADS employees who provide counseling, interpreting, and other help to people who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directing the Bureau of Services for Persons who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing
  • Overseeing ADS employees who provide counseling, interpreting, and other help to people who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing
  • Assisting and collaborating with State Agencies on concerns related to persons who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing
  • Coordinating education and training initiatives, including working with local and state public safety and public health officials and first responders on best practices for serving and communicating with deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing persons
  • Raising public awareness of programs and services available to deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing persons, and partnering with civic and community organizations that serve these communities
Requirements:
  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Strong background in social services
  • Experience assisting individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing
  • Experience directing a program for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing
