The General, Trauma, Colon, and Rectal Surgery Unit at Orlando Health is a 30-bed post-operative unit featuring all private rooms.
This unit offers an ideal setting for both novice and seasoned nurses to develop their skills and establish a solid foundation for delivering outstanding patient care.
The patient demographic served in this unit includes individuals undergoing general surgery, with a focus on acute pre- and post-operative care for general, colorectal, gastrointestinal surgeries, and trauma cases.Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties
Exhibits proficiency in advanced practical nursing techniques and the utilization of patient care/unit equipment as specified by unit-specific skill requirements.
Communicates pertinent information regarding patient conditions to the Registered Nurse and other healthcare team members.Assists the Registered Nurse or healthcare provider during examinations and procedures.
Records patient data and educational interactions in accordance with Orlando Health and departmental guidelines.
Capable of performing triage functions, including patient assessment and determining subsequent care steps, collaborating as directed by the nursing team or healthcare providers.
Administers oral and injectable medications or immunizations within the scope of LPN practice and as directed by a provider.Maintains a secure and compassionate environment for both patients and their families.
Takes an active role in staying informed about changes in hospital policies, procedures, and equipment.
Participates in nursing performance improvement activities as assigned.
Demonstrates awareness of legal considerations, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
Exhibits the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served in the assigned unit.
Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, providing care as outlined in the unit's policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Successful completion of a 30-hour approved IV therapy course
Licensure/Certification
Current nursing license in the State of Florida, renewed biennially.
Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience
No prior experience required.
