This program caters to youth aged 14 to 24 who are serving long-term sentences for serious felony offenses. Utilizing a trauma-informed, positive youth development model, the YDA supports both the youth and their families during their time in custody and as they reintegrate into the community.

Position Summary: The Youth and Family Support Specialist (YFSS) will collaborate closely with the YDA Coordinator to develop assessment-driven, strength-based treatment plans that guide the youth's treatment while in custody and during their transition back to the community. The YFSS will engage with various members of the youth team, including Probation Officers, Behavioral Health Clinicians, and service providers, to inform treatment strategies. Additionally, the YFSS will actively involve the youth's family and support systems through home visits and community engagement.

  • Provide advocacy and referrals to community resources based on client needs post-release.
  • Develop and maintain outreach and connections to appropriate community services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Coordinator.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in social science, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field, or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with justice-involved youth (ages 14 to 24).

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse environment with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience in an institutional setting to foster a therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Conduct home visits to support youth and family transitions back to the community.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, Positive Youth Development, and restorative practices is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus, but not required.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain auto insurance, as driving is required approximately 40% of the time.
