SUPERVISOR: Principal or designee.
JOB SUMMARY: The Campus Safety Officer is tasked with ensuring a secure and safe educational environment, promoting a conducive atmosphere for learning, and acting as a deterrent to inappropriate behavior. This role involves monitoring the premises, overseeing student conduct, enforcing institutional policies, intervening in conflicts, observing security feeds, managing visitor access, reporting hazardous conditions, and supporting administrative and emergency personnel during critical situations. Flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required. This position is district-wide, with assignments determined by the District Security Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties outline the essential functions of the role and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and security of students and the campus by maintaining a visible presence throughout the school; patrol hallways, common areas, grounds, and parking lots; intervene in student conflicts; de-escalate tense situations; and enforce safety policies regarding prohibited items, behavior, and dress code. Assist visitors and verify visitor credentials. [Daily, 30%]
- Supervise students during lunch periods both inside and outside the building. [Daily, 25%]
- Assist site administrators in investigating incidents of misconduct using security footage and conducting searches for contraband. Provide support during emergencies. [Daily, 20%]
- Address behavioral infractions with students, document incidents for administrative review, and assist in determining appropriate disciplinary actions. Report unsafe conditions to administrators. [Daily, 10%]
- May oversee students in study hall, in-school suspension, or after-school detention. [Daily, 5%]
- Provide security at athletic events and other extracurricular activities outside of regular school hours. [Weekly, 5%]
- Perform additional related duties as assigned. [Daily, 5%]
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Adhere to uniform standards as specified by the Director of Safety and Security.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Culturally competent with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Basic proficiency with office equipment and Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic knowledge of radio communication protocols.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Demonstrated commitment to student safety and customer service.
- Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting is required.
- Valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- CPR/First Aid certification within one year of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within one year of hire.
- FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) 100 certification within six months of hire.
- Associate's degree.
- Experience in a public school environment.
- Background in emergency response.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Bilingual abilities.
- Familiarity with visitor management systems.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical assessment.
- Capability to lift heavy objects (over 50 pounds).
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Frequent physical activities including bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Strong visual acuity and motor skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and during evenings or weekends as needed.
- Willingness to undergo ongoing training as required.
