Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in performing ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians. This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the ultrasound procedure, and answer questions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Equipment Selection: Select the appropriate ultrasound machine and probe to obtain diagnostic information requested by the referring physician.
  • Image Acquisition: Apply gel to the patient's skin, apply the probe, and monitor the equipment to obtain high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Image Review: Process film and review images to confirm that they meet the radiologist's requirements.
  • Initial Diagnosis: Prepare an initial diagnosis by identifying abnormal conditions for review by the radiologist.
  • Procedure Assistance: Use ultrasound equipment to assist providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain the ultrasound equipment and examination room, store film, and keep inventory of related supplies.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as directed.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
  • Education: Completion of an ARDMS-accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology.
  • License/Certification: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients; effective interpersonal skills; and ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption.
