Senior Principal Engineer - Automation Innovation

Job Summary:

Komatsu is seeking a highly skilled Senior Principal Engineer - Automation Innovation to lead the development of advanced autonomous and situational awareness technologies for our mining equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and developing new technologies, leading innovation projects, and mentoring other engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead automation innovation projects, acting as a technical resource for other team members.
  • Research new/alternative machine automation tools and systems applicable to mining equipment and validate their potential viability.
  • Lead New Product Design initiatives in the field of machine autonomy, including technical specification, hardware selection, integration, programming, testing, and associated documentation of systems designed to enhance the autonomous functionality of large-scale mining equipment.
  • Turn functional concepts into technical designs with a strong focus on end-user experiences.
  • Collaborate with different business units and other internal departments.
  • Share knowledge and convey resource capabilities and needs to upper management.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs in support of reliable safe products and services as well as supporting lean Engineering and operational Excellence initiatives.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of robotics, sensors, programming, machine autonomy, and/or controls experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Robotics or Mechatronics Engineering preferred).
  • Masters' degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication skill (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Creative, high energy, self-motivated, and self-starter.
