Job Summary:

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Dosimetrist to join our Radiation Oncology department. As a Medical Dosimetrist, you will work under the general supervision of Medical Physicists to generate treatment plans for external beam and brachytherapy patient treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate treatment plans as per physician's prescription in consultation with physicist
  • Perform independent plan check using established department method
  • Transfer approved plan data to record and verify system (R&V) and verify data consistency with approved plan
  • Assist in setting up difficult treatment fields in machine for first treatment, when required
  • Perform weekly chart-check and attend weekly chart-round
  • Assist in preparation and loading of sealed sources for brachytherapy application
  • Assist in brachytherapy procedure
  • Assist in planning and fabrication of blocks/cutouts, when needed
  • Perform measurements, when needed
  • Assist in machine commissioning, acceptance testing, QA, etc.
  • Assist in data acquisition, data modeling and commissioning, etc.
  • Prepare documentation, forms, etc.
  • Follow patient's confidentiality requirements
  • Maintain department quality assurance protocols
  • Maintain functionality of planning system and peripherals
  • Complete required continued education and training
  • Provide emergency dosimetry coverage, when warranted
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (Dosimetrist program, computer science, physics or physical science)
  • Be eligible for board certification
  • Computer (MS Office) and internet browsing skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions is essential and must be detail oriented
  • Work thought out, planned in advance and successfully implemented to achieve efficiency and quality patient care. Work is completed in a timely manner; meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified by Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (CMD)
  • At least one year of experience as medical dosimetrist
  • Graduate from The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) program
