Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Washington University in St. Louis. As a key member of our ophthalmology department, you will provide advanced administrative and technical support to our ophthalmologists in a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform kinetic and static visual fields tests (Goldman & Humphrey)
  • Assist with the clinical workup of patients, including a detailed patient history
  • Help patients understand general office evaluation and physician instructions
  • Perform gross refractions, keratometry, tonography, and tonometry
  • Insert and remove patient contact lenses when necessary, and provide contact lens instruction to patients
  • Perform BAT (Brightness acuity test) glare testing and PAM (Potential acuity meter) testing
  • Perform A-Scan ultrasound testing
  • Assist physicians with minor surgical procedures
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification
  • Completion of the AAO Home study course with one year supervised ophthalmologic office experience
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
  • Basic Life Support certification
