Position Overview:
The General Merchandise Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring exceptional guest relations and satisfaction. This position supports the General Merchandise Manager in various departmental responsibilities, including inventory management, merchandising, and training of team members.

  • Guest Engagement: Acknowledge, greet, and engage guests as they enter the department.
  • Team Management: Assist in interviewing, training, scheduling, and evaluating the performance of all team members within the General Merchandise department.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication and information distribution among the team.
  • Positive Atmosphere: Foster a supportive and motivating environment within the department.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate strong leadership skills through effective time management and delegation.
  • Financial Goals: Contribute to achieving financial objectives and executing division strategies.
  • Guest Assistance: Remain attentive to guest needs and provide assistance in locating items.
  • Flexibility: Adapt quickly to changing guest demands and activities.
  • Product Availability: Ensure consistent product availability and quality for guests.
  • Asset Management: Safeguard and monitor departmental assets, ensuring adherence to policies.
  • Safety Practices: Maintain a clean and safe work environment, encouraging team compliance.
  • Process Adherence: Ensure departmental systems and processes are followed accurately.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Department Manager to plan production and promotional goals.
  • Coaching: Assist in the development and coaching of team members as needed.
  • Inventory Coordination: Support the inventory process and reporting.
  • Department Management: Handle departmental responsibilities in the absence of the Department Manager.
  • Food Safety: Ensure compliance with food safety procedures.
  • Stock Management: Maintain stock levels and ensure proper rotation of merchandise.
  • Tag Maintenance: Ensure all product tags are properly placed and in good condition.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Key Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in General Merchandise.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs regularly.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks including bending, squatting, lifting, and walking.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in basic math and computer skills (Word, Excel, Email).
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to organize and plan team activities.
  • Possess leadership qualities and technical skills.
  • Ability to operate ordering and stocking equipment.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to accept supervisory feedback on performance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
