Heavy Equipment Operator and Laborer

The Town of Burlington is seeking a skilled individual to perform manual work related to the operation of heavy and specialized public works equipment. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Superintendent of the Highway Division.
- Assist in various public works projects, including maintaining and repairing streets, installing, cleaning, and repairing culverts, catch basins, and drainage lines, sweeping streets and sidewalks, and repairing guardrails and signs.
- Operate specialized and heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, basin cleaners, and street sweepers, perform manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment, and service and maintain equipment.
- Operate snow removal and sanding vehicles, assist in emergency highway and other public works repairs, and perform laborer's duties when not assigned to equipment operation.
- Operate hand tools, mowers, jack hammers, air compressors, clippers, cutting tools, and related equipment, load and unload trucks, and pick-up and haul materials.
- Subject to emergency recall.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Must possess a CDL Class B License.
- Must possess a Hoisting License 1B, 2A, 4E, and 4G.
- Must have the ability to operate trucks with a rated capacity of more than three tons up to nine tons.
- Ability to operate hoisting equipment, such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and catch basin machines, 125 CFM compressors, sidewalk rollers, highway sanders, and similar equipment used in Public Works construction and maintenance.
- Must be available for emergency snow removal and able to plow and sand roads.
This is a full-time union position, 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit. The pay range within Group 86 of the DPW contract starts at $29.78/hr, providing annual salary increases to a maximum rate of $42.35/hr, along with comprehensive and generous benefits.
