Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Operator to join our team at VPNE Parking Solutions. As a Telecommunications Operator, you will be responsible for providing 24/7, 365-day service operating switchboard, paging console, patient information, and monitoring and responding to all codes, trauma, and hospital-wide alarm activity.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Receive and process calls daily for Lahey Burlington and Lahey Peabody, as well as support internal calls from hospital staff for paging and directory assistance.
  2. Operate the AMCOM paging software system, incorporating paging, message retrieval, physician registry, and overhead paging, processing approximately 2000 pages per day.
  3. Initiate and oversee after-hours on-call schedules for Lahey Burlington, Lahey Peabody, and certain CGP locations for patient and staff calls, maintaining sleep room schedules for medical staff and locating staff as necessary.
  4. Monitor and respond to all Lahey Burlington activated codes and alarms, including trauma, resuscitation team, disaster alerts, missing person, emergency exit doors, medical gas, radiation, blood bank, hyalon, and burglar and hold-up, notifying essential personnel, security, and 911 emergency services.
  5. Handle all in-patient information calls, updating patient registers as necessary for accuracy, controlling patient room telephone on/off activity, and restricting/unrestricting hospital telephones as necessary.
  6. Distribute new, spare, and long-range pagers, patient room telephones, TTY (hearing-impaired) equipment, batteries, hospital directories, and conference room speakerphones, providing assistance to in-house staff requiring international calling and faxing.
  7. Institute emergency backup procedures in the event of systems failure to paging or telephone systems.
  8. Apply effective listening skills and courtesy when interacting with physicians, patients, patient family members, visitors, medical staff, and all other hospital personnel, diffusing irate patient calls when necessary.
  9. Demonstrate flexibility and team support to cover alternate shifts and holiday schedules as required.
  10. Understand the Telecom Department as an essential department to the hospital and report to work during inclement weather conditions, etc.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.
  • Previous telephone/switchboard or ACD experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology or basic understanding.
  • Strong Customer Service Skills.
