Position: Staff Accountant
Location: Southeast Indianapolis

Work Arrangement: Fully in office
Compensation: $65,000 to $75,000 based on experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Calculate, categorize, document, and validate numerical information to maintain financial and operational records.
  • Confirm and record details of financial transactions into the ledger and/or spreadsheets.
  • Uphold corporate governance and controls by securing necessary approvals for expenditures and other operational activities.
  • Oversee the complete accounts payable and receivable processes, including managing collections and addressing overdue accounts.
  • Assist the Controller and CFO with forecasting and reporting cash flow.
  • Collect W9 forms from vendors and manage the annual 1099 reporting process.
  • Calculate commission accruals and review disbursement requests for accuracy.
  • Manage the company’s sales/use and personal property tax obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Insurance Broker on renewal preparations and claims management.
  • Support Sales Operations and the RFP process by providing necessary company records and information.
  • Act as a backup for Payroll processing within the HR department.
  • Lead various projects aimed at improving business processes.
  • Coordinate with operations to ensure timely invoicing of completed work orders.
  • Reconcile specific general ledger accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Assist employees, vendors, and clients by addressing inquiries related to expense reports, bills, and invoices.
  • Support the Controller in preparing for audits.
  • Work closely with the Controller to facilitate the month-end closing process.
  • Assist the Controller and CFO in generating ad hoc management reports and schedules.
  • Establish meaningful cross-departmental relationships and serve as a trusted financial advisor to support organizational decision-making.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP principles and governance controls.
  • Ability to operate with urgency and maintain high accuracy.
  • Professional demeanor with discretion, confidentiality, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and support the Controller's needs proactively.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, MS Dynamics, or similar GL systems.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft O365 (Excel, Word, and Teams).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or an Associate's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of professional bookkeeping experience, including full-cycle accounts payable and receivable.

Preferred:

  • More than 2 years of professional bookkeeping experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Accounting from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in software or service industries, particularly in B2B or B2G environments, ideally with recurring revenue models.
  • Background in private equity-backed startups or high-growth, fast-paced companies.
