Job Title: Service Operations Leader

Reports to: Vice President of Services

Department: Service

Position Summary: This pivotal, full-time role is critical to the organization's success, focusing on guiding, managing, and ensuring accountability within a team of service professionals who directly engage with clients. The team comprises Field Technicians and Pilots responsible for executing services such as commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, repair, and training on control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a team of Field Technicians and Pilots to fulfill commissioning and start-up requirements.
  • Oversee employee performance by setting clear expectations, motivating the team, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Initiate personnel actions including hiring, evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary measures.
  • Establish priorities and assess team performance regularly.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols among team members.
  • Develop and refine systems, processes, and procedures for efficient business operations.
  • Review documentation and ensure compliance with established policies and best practices.
  • Monitor service engagement costs and overall profitability.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineering to create commissioning and start-up schedules.
  • Coordinate with clients for on-site work and scheduling.
  • Manage departmental workload, staffing, and resource planning.
  • Review service reports and expenses for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate scope deviations with Project Managers to develop change notices.
  • Engage regularly with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and external clients.
  • Propose process improvements and implement relevant policies.
  • Foster a supportive environment that encourages staff development through training and self-assessment.
  • Monitor and report on team Key Performance Indicators.
  • Represent team feedback on quality issues and product enhancements.
  • Ensure timely project progress reviews.
  • Provide team members with necessary tools and equipment.
  • Maintain service inventory and office facilities.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings as required.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role within an automation company.
  • Experience as a Controls Engineer, Field Technician, or Journeyman Electrician.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and motor controls.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and communicate effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing situations.
Work Environment:
  • May involve working in industrial settings with required personal protective equipment.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary based on project requirements.
