Visual Content Creator

Position Overview:
The Idaho National Laboratory is on the lookout for a Photographer/Videographer to enhance the Visual Communications division within the External Engagement & Communications directorate.
This role operates on a structured 9x80 schedule at the Idaho Falls campus, allowing for every other Friday off.
The successful candidate will be responsible for crafting visual content aimed at laboratory-wide employee communications that reflect laboratory values, strategies, performance metrics, and employee programs, policies, and tools. The role demands imaginative and innovative contributions to fulfill various laboratory objectives. Additionally, you will play a key role in generating content and providing strategic insights for external communications, public relations, and marketing initiatives to effectively inform partners, sponsors, elected officials, collaborators, media outlets, and the general public.
Note: This is a one-year project position with the potential for conversion to a regular, full-time role.
Reporting Structure:
You will report directly to the Labwide Communications Services Manager and will not have any managerial duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and execution of internal and external communication initiatives or products.
- Advise on best practices for showcasing successes and assist experts in tailoring their messages to effectively engage target audiences.
- Ensure compliance with INL and Department of Energy branding, messaging, awareness, and approval standards.
- Assist with photo and video shoots, including preparation and transportation of equipment, setup, and takedown.
- Capture headshots and portraits under the guidance of the lead photographer.
- Perform minor editing tasks as directed by the lead photographer or videographer.
- Edit video content under the supervision of the lead videographer, including footage preparation, audio synchronization, rough cuts, and gathering b-roll and other assets.
- Support as a second camera operator during photo/video shoots.
- Complete assignments as directed by the lead photographer/videographer.
- Assist with pre-production and post-production tasks such as stock and music searches.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of photography principles, theories, and practices.
- Familiarity with field production techniques and standards.
- Proficient in current digital photography techniques and systems.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
- Knowledge of Canon EOS camera systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Level 1: Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Level 2: Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience or High School Diploma with 8 years of relevant experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver's license, as responsibilities include driving visitors in a government vehicle.
- Flexibility in schedule is required, including the possibility of working nights and weekends on short notice.
- This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Compensation Information:
- The salary range for this position is: Level 1 Salary grade 410 ($45,300-$88,440) / Level 2 Salary grade 420 ($54,876-$107,064). Compensation decisions are based on factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
