About LEEP Academy
LEEP Dual Language Academy Charter School is dedicated to fostering a diverse and enriching educational environment. Our institution employs a research-driven 90:10 model of Spanish language immersion, ensuring that all students excel academically while becoming bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural. We pride ourselves on our diverse community and our commitment to serving Sunset Park.
As part of our educational approach, our special education specialists collaborate with general education teachers within Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom settings.
At LEEP Academy, we meticulously plan lessons based on a shared set of high-quality curricula in both English and Spanish. We engage in continuous assessment and analysis of student data to tailor our instruction effectively. Our educators differentiate their teaching methods and collaborate with families and service providers to address each child's unique needs. We embody our school's Core Virtues: Cariño, Respeto, Valentía, Gratitud, y Alegría. Teachers typically work between 50-55 hours per week, with core hours from 7:10 am to 4:30 pm, including a lunch break and preparation time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction grounded in research to meet the instructional goals outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Evaluate student progress and determine necessary adjustments to instructional strategies.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and learning principles to support students in achieving their IEP objectives.
- Develop and implement comprehensive IEP plans that encompass present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals, and required services.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Instruction, Special Education coordinator, general education teachers, intervention specialists, and service providers to establish instructional goals and strategies.
- Create a supportive learning environment that emphasizes individualized instruction, including necessary accommodations and modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress in a timely manner.
- Continuously analyze student work and performance to refine instructional approaches.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Complete all district and state reporting requirements promptly.
- Availability for occasional weekends and evenings may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish.
- A Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- NYS Special Education Teaching License or enrollment in a certification program.
- Experience participating in IEP meetings.
- Fingerprint clearance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of special education principles, practices, and methodologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate and establish relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Alignment with LEEP's core beliefs and educational philosophy.
