Job Title: Shipfitter - Structural Fabrication Specialist

International Marine and Industrial Applicators is seeking a skilled Shipfitter - Structural Fabrication Specialist to join our team. As a Shipfitter, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and erection of steel structures onboard ships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints and safety manuals.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
  • Position parts in the hull of the ship and align them with each other using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
  • Mark location of holes to be drilled and install temporary fasteners to hold part(s) in place for welding.
  • Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months of experience in steel fabrication and assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints and safety manuals.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses.

Working Conditions:

  • Most work performed will be onboard a ship, in a dry dock or shipyard under fast-paced conditions.
  • Consistent exposure to extreme temperatures, outdoor elements, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty conditions.

  • Measuring tapes, rulers, squares, levels, chalk lines, saws, shears, plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, angle grinders, welding machines, welding torches, electrodes, welding masks, cranes, hoists, chains, slings, come-alongs, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, vise grips, clamps, files, deburring tools, drills, grinders, sanders, impact wrenches, reciprocating saws, air hammers (pneumatic), riveters (pneumatic), forklifts, pallet jacks, trolleys, and other tools.
