Position Overview

The Bilingual Education Specialist will focus on assisting students in their journey to achieve English language proficiency. This position entails crafting and executing effective language education strategies, collaborating with classroom educators, and cultivating an inclusive and culturally responsive educational atmosphere. Emphasizing language acquisition and academic achievement, the specialist will engage with ELL students and their families to provide a supportive and enriching educational experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designs, organizes, and delivers English instruction that aligns with state and federal educational standards;
  • Ensures instructional consistency with the district's educational framework to help students meet and surpass learning objectives;
  • Creates and implements lesson plans that incorporate a diverse array of effective teaching methodologies;
  • Addresses all facets of communication through tailored instruction that enhances each student's reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across content areas;
  • Conducts academic and language assessments to monitor student progress toward academic goals and language development;
  • Keeps thorough and precise records of student performance and evidence of growth;
  • Fosters a nurturing and encouraging learning environment that promotes student accountability and integrates challenging instructional methods;
  • Modifies curriculum to provide individualized, small group, and/or remedial instruction to cater to the needs of diverse learners;
  • Establishes a culturally inclusive and supportive classroom that honors the varied backgrounds of ELL students;
  • Advocates for the distinct needs of ELL students within the educational community;
  • Collaborates with school leaders and support personnel to create a comprehensive support network for ELL students.
  • Maintains standards of student behavior necessary for an orderly and effective classroom environment;
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to accommodate the diverse learning styles and interests of students;
  • Manages instructional time effectively to optimize student learning outcomes;
  • Supervises out-of-classroom activities during the school day as required;
  • Assists school administration in executing all Board policies;
  • Achieves objectives outlined in the Professional Growth Plan developed in collaboration with school leadership as part of the accountability process mandated by state regulations;
  • Engages in regular consultations with administrators, colleagues, students, and parents;
  • Plans and oversees meaningful tasks for paraprofessionals and volunteers assigned;
  • Collaborates with school leaders in evaluating the performance of teacher aides and volunteers;
  • Participates in professional staff committees and meetings as required;
  • Stays informed about current trends, research, and best practices in bilingual education;
  • Engages in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional skills;
  • Performs additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field is required;
  • Valid teaching certification in Louisiana is mandatory;
  • ESL endorsement is essential;
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred;
  • Experience with elementary-level English language learners is advantageous.

$50,000 - $82,059 a year

Salary Structure:

$50,000 for uncertified educators

$57,500 for certified educators + $1,600 board stipend

Salary increments are determined by educational qualifications, certification, and years of experience.

- Requires motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) during part of the workday;

- Involves occasional physical effort in handling objects weighing more than 30 pounds;

- May be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic substances) infrequently;

- Normal work setting is an office/school environment.

Performance Evaluation

Employee performance will be assessed based on the aforementioned position using either the COMPASS evaluation system or a NOLA-PS evaluation tool. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, they will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure certification renewal.
