Position Overview

The Department of Restorative Sciences at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is in search of a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. This role may involve support for the Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) program and other advanced educational initiatives, aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental objectives. The faculty member will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing curriculum strategies. Additionally, the faculty member will assess student and resident performance and will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences. This is a non-tenure track position.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching - 65%

Engage in curriculum development and enhancement. Facilitate didactic and clinical education for students, faculty, and peers in various educational settings, employing best practices and evidence-based approaches. Develop and implement both informal and formal assessments of student performance. Serve as an effective clinician-educator, evaluated through quantitative and qualitative measures.
  • Support pre-doctoral lab courses and clinical instruction, achieving positive evaluations from students, residents, and peers.
  • Contribute to the pre-doctoral program, ensuring comprehensive curriculum and clinical competency preparation for licensing examinations.
  • Participate in curriculum innovation and maintenance, utilizing best evidence for educational practices.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of collaborative advanced technology curricula and clinical initiatives.
  • Conduct assessments of student performance and engage in faculty peer review.
  • Collaborate with advanced education program directors and residents in Restorative Sciences.
  • Foster effective professional relationships to support pre-doctoral and advanced program success.

Research/Scholarship - 10%

Collaborate with faculty and mentor students/residents in research and scholarly activities leading to presentations and publications.
  • Engage in departmental research initiatives and manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Support the department's FOSTER (Faculty Opportunity Strategies Toward Effective Research) Program through advocacy and participation.
  • Expand research collaborations both within and outside the institution based on expertise.

Clinical/Patient Care - 20%

Deliver patient care within the faculty practice at Augusta University Dental Associates, adhering to quality standards and compliance with all policies.

Service - 5%

Participate in initiatives that support the Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University, the profession, and the community.
  • Engage in committee work at both the DCG and AU levels, supporting professional service activities.
  • Complete required continuing education credits for professional licensure maintenance and mandatory training for clinical responsibilities.


Qualifications

Required: DDS/DMD degree from an accredited institution; active unrestricted license in another state or eligibility for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.

Assistant Professor: Early career faculty member with relevant background and training.

Associate Professor: Mid-career faculty member with a minimum of five years at the Assistant Professor level.

Professor: Senior faculty member with at least five years at the Associate Professor level.

All candidates must meet the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements, demonstrate teaching ability, engage in scholarly activities, and possess desirable personal qualities.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in advanced technologies and digital workflows, including dental implants; prior experience in dental education; clinical experience.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, year-round position with a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to funding availability. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, and wellness options.
