School Social Worker

The School Social Worker collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic support and intervention for students in the school setting. This role requires establishing a set of rules and procedures that are appropriate for the therapeutic setting and align with the full instructional program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing individualized service plans based on the IEP and supporting the curriculum using diagnostic information from various assessments.
  • Utilizing available resources as a bridge to the instructional program and effectively transitioning students from therapy to classroom and classroom to therapy.
  • Engaging students in providing positive feedback using effective reinforcement techniques and interacting effectively with students, family members, educational team members, and professionals outside the organization.
  • Knowledgeable about general development and the impact of disability on the student and their family, and utilizing community, state, and national resources when necessary to promote the safety and welfare of students.
  • Collaborating with assigned students and educational support staff, as well as any assigned student teachers, interns, and volunteers working in the school for the welfare and safety of all students while in the classroom, on school grounds, during before and after-school activities.

Requirements for this role include:

  • Holding a Professional Educator License with School Social Worker (SSW) endorsement as required by state, contract, and/or facility.
  • May be required to have MSW or LCSW per state, contract, or facility.
  • Complying with all relevant professional standards of practice and participating and completing Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable, and current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements and successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understanding patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements and ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required and must be at least 18 years of age.
