Job Summary

As a Phlebotomy Specialist at Tucson Medical Center, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens and maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed. You will process, label, and distribute specimens for testing, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adhering to laboratory policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Properly identify patients before obtaining specimens and label samples subsequent to collection in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Perform laboratory procedures at the time of collection, including transporting patients' specimens to the laboratory or making arrangements for delivery.
  • Key and verify computer input data, assign identification numbers, and produce specimen collection lists/labels and other computer reports.
  • Legibly document failure-to-draw reasons according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Process and deliver specimens received in the laboratory to the proper sections for analysis.
  • Resolve routine problems related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Consult reference manuals to ensure specimens are properly packaged for send-out.
  • Coordinate the dispatch log and courier requests for specimens being sent to outside laboratories.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Six (6) months of experience collecting blood specimens.
  • Valid AZ driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the proper collection of blood specimens and proper chain of custody to ensure integrity of the specimens.
  • Skill in the collection of blood specimens.
  • Skill in organizing labels and work to ensure timely completion of tasks.
