Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist-Outpatient Float TMCOne to join our team at Tucson Medical Center. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens and maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens from patients and maintain the integrity of the specimen
  • Process, label, and distribute specimens for testing
  • Properly identify patients before obtaining specimens and label samples subsequent to collection
  • Perform laboratory procedures as needed
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory or arrange for delivery
  • Key and verify computer input data, assign identification numbers, and produce specimen collection lists/labels
  • Document failure-to-draw reasons according to laboratory policies and procedures
  • Process and deliver specimens received in the laboratory to the proper sections for analysis
  • Resolve routine problems related to specimen collection and processing
  • Consult reference manuals to ensure specimens are properly packaged for send-out
  • Coordinate the dispatch log and courier requests for specimens being sent to outside laboratories
  • Use the lab computer system to enter and retrieve pertinent patient information
  • Consult with medical staff and other healthcare providers on matters relating to laboratory services
  • Answer telephones, route callers, take messages, and provide information to callers
  • Set up, calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory centrifuges
  • Operate a personal computer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine, or related office machinery
  • Request and order supplies as necessary
  • Assist in training new personnel in accordance with laboratory and phlebotomy department policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Valid AZ driver's license
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Six (6) months of experience collecting blood specimens
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the proper collection of blood specimens and proper chain of custody to ensure integrity of the specimens
  • Skill in the collection of blood specimens
  • Skill in organizing labels and work to ensure timely completion of tasks
