Managing Director for Advancement, Washington National Opera

The Managing Director for Advancement, Washington National Opera, will lead the development of a comprehensive advancement strategy to drive growth in major gift philanthropy. This role will focus on building and diversifying the donor base, with a primary emphasis on individual major donors. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center's mission, as well as a proven track record of driving growth in advancement.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy to drive growth in major gift philanthropy
- Build and diversify the donor base, with a primary emphasis on individual major donors
- Lead both annual and campaign efforts to increase and diversify the donor base
- Collaborate with the General Director, Artistic Director, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and success
- Lead a team of eight and provide guidance and support to ensure the success of the advancement program
- Passion for the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center's mission
- Proven track record of driving growth in advancement, preferably in a major not-for-profit cultural institution
- Experience working with a sophisticated donor base in a complex institutional setting
- Confidence and relationship management skills
- Familiarity with the local and national philanthropic communities
- Major campaign leadership experience
- Success as a frontline cultivator and solicitor of major gifts
