Job Overview

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The Residential Care Assistant is accountable for comprehensive resident support and the routine upkeep of the living environment.

WORKING RELATIONSHIP:

This position reports directly to the Manager and the Lead Residential Care Assistant on duty, overseeing all job responsibilities. The role involves fostering and maintaining relationships with:

  • Residents, Manager, Lead Residential Care Assistant, colleagues, Agency Nurses, Agency Behaviorist, residents' families and/or guardians, Healthcare Consultants, DDS personnel, and community members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
  2. Must obtain and maintain medication certification.
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  4. Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to manage confidential information.
  5. Proficiency, or the ability to achieve proficiency, in First Aid, CPR, PMT, Abuse/Neglect, DDS Medication Administration, and other specific medical and habilitative needs of residents. Attendance at all required in-services and staff meetings is necessary. Adherence to all agency policies and procedures is expected.
  6. Basic computer skills are required; experience with electronic health records is preferred.
  7. A valid Connecticut Driver's License and eligibility for auto insurance through Network, Inc. are required.
  8. Physical capability to assist participants when necessary (e.g., lifting, using approved adaptive equipment, applying approved physical restraint techniques).
  9. Proficiency, or the ability to achieve proficiency, in the electronic health record system THERAP is required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Engage, as assigned, in delivering all facets of direct resident care as outlined in individual plans, ensuring proper documentation in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and licensing, including:

  • Activities of daily living (ADL)
  • Individual plan goal activities
  • Socialization
  • Development of communication skills
  • Fostering meaningful interpersonal relationships
  • Enhancing self-preservation skills
  • Developing habilitation skills
  • Personal hygiene
  • Transportation
  • Serving as a positive role model
  • Leisure and recreation skills
  • Cooking skills development
  • Implementing behavioral plans

2. Participate, as assigned, in routine maintenance of the residence as appropriate within the context of home ownership.

3. Ensure the safeguarding and proper management of residents' belongings and funds on the premises.

4. Document relevant resident and residence electronic health records, including:

  • Periodic resident-specific status assessments
  • Daily resident-specific task analysis charts
  • Other daily resident-specific records as directed
  • Ongoing inter-staff communication in T-logs
  • Medication administration documentation
  • Resident attendance
  • Ongoing residence maintenance records as directed
  • Other records as directed

5. Participate in the normal family routine of meal preparation, as needed and assigned.

6. Engage in an ongoing program of staff in-service and staff meetings.

7. Uphold all residents' rights and adhere to relevant legislation affecting the community residence.

8. Comply with all community residence policies and procedures.

9. Function as an active and constructive team member in all duties.

10. Maintain confidentiality of resident information and records.

11. May be requested to cover for coworkers' absences, including vacation and sick leave, as well as additional emergency staffing needs.

12. Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
