Upon successful completion of the P.O.S.T approved academy, a Police Officer Trainee may transition to the Police Officer classification. Below is an overview of the benefits available for a Police Officer Trainee, along with the enhancements upon promotion to Police Officer classification.

  • Annual Leave: 3.23 sick hours and 3.23 annual leave hours per pay period (Trainee) vs. 8.08 hours of annual leave per pay period (Officer)

Department Overview:
The Corona Police Department comprises 250 personnel, including officers and professional staff, organized into three divisions: Field Services, Investigative Services, and Support Services. Our mission is to ensure community safety and security while fostering trust through transparency.

Position Summary:
The Police Officer Trainee role is an entry-level, non-sworn training position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

Knowledge & Education
  • Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in English, including spelling, composition, and grammar.
  • Familiarity with modern office equipment and relevant software.
Skills/Abilities
  • Learn fundamental functions, principles, and practices of law enforcement.
  • Understand and apply relevant laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Exercise independent judgment within policy and legal guidelines.
Experience
  • Ability to successfully complete a Basic Police Academy as per California standards.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License.
  • Minimum age of 20.5 years at the time of application.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Testing Process:
Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to complete an online written exam. Successful candidates will undergo physical agility testing and oral board interviews. The top candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for future vacancies.
