Civil Engineer Job Description

The Civil Engineer is a key member of our team at Soltesz, responsible for working in our Lanham, MD office to prepare site civil engineering construction documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of land development construction drawings/documents based on client goals under the supervision of the assigned Project Manager.
  • Assistance in preparing zoning, preliminary, and concept land development plans.
  • Site grading design and drafting to ensure value engineering through earthwork analysis and site safety through design slopes and drainage considerations.
  • Soil erosion & sediment control design and drafting, including stability calculations, Best Management Practices, swale design, spillway design, and construction sequence determination.
  • Calculating quantities for construction cost estimates.
  • Researching and understanding standards/codes required by clients and jurisdictions through interaction with necessary personnel.
  • Processing design plan documents through local, state, and federal approving agencies.

The Civil Engineer completes tasks as assigned by the immediate Project Manager and/or other management staff. They report directly to the Project Manager but may receive direction from the Assistant Project Manager or other management staff.

Requirements:
  • Microstation and/or AutoCAD drafting experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 5-10 years' experience in civil/site land planning and engineering.
  • Experience in Maryland and/or Prince George's County preferred but not required.
