Position Overview:

Reporting to the VP of Global Product Development, the Senior Chemist will be responsible for the formulation and innovation of products within the Hair & Body categories. This role requires timely delivery of formulations while supporting ongoing technical and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Formulation:

  • Innovate and refine formulations and technologies to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate with raw material laboratories for effective formulation development.
  • Evaluate materials and technologies to determine their technical efficacy.
  • Prepare samples for testing, including package compatibility and safety assessments, while providing regular updates.
  • Submit comprehensive documentation with formulations, including ingredient percentages and modifications.
  • Conduct stability assessments and other necessary laboratory tests for new formulations.
  • Identify opportunities for improving routine laboratory testing processes.
  • Utilize project management methodologies to ensure project completion.
  • Draft specifications for raw materials and formulations.
  • Assist in scaling up processes for pilot plant operations.
  • Maintain thorough documentation through technology transfer and project reports.
  • Support patent applications and uphold confidentiality agreements.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Implement appropriate laboratory safety protocols.

Process Research:

  • Develop innovative processes for both new and existing products.
  • Design experiments and protocols to guarantee scalability and reliability of formulations.
  • Lead the enhancement of existing methods and processes, implementing necessary improvements.
  • Oversee all aspects of the departmental laboratory and establish efficient laboratory procedures.

Technical Communication:

  • Craft and deliver technical communications to support product efficacy and preservation strategies for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare scientific presentations for colleagues and industry conferences.
  • Participate in technical meetings and share insights that align with company objectives.
  • Act as a technical resource for various teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in formulation within the Haircare and Bodycare sectors.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve formulation challenges.
  • Skilled in translating consumer insights into actionable technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills across various platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams, including Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Marketing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment.
  • Proficient in managing laboratory operations independently.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Adaptable to changes in project requirements and priorities.
