Job Summary

The City of Shoreview seeks a highly skilled and experienced Finance Director to lead its finance department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for the finance department, including long-term financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the city's long-term financial plan, including the five-year operating plan and capital improvement program.
  • Prepare and implement the biennial city budget, monitoring revenues, expenditures, and investments to ensure sound fiscal control.
  • Manage and provide oversight of all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, utilities, and front desk reception.
  • Directly supervise the Assistant Finance Director and Finance Systems Manager, managing employee performance and providing coaching and mentoring as needed.
  • Collaborate with and educate colleagues on financial items, including capital planning, payroll, risk management, and workers' compensation.
  • Prepare the city's comprehensive annual financial report and utility rate studies.
  • Manage the city's finances to provide for bonded debt service, working in partnership with financial advisors.
  • Make public presentations at city council meetings and public hearings, responding to questions and comments and updating public information pieces.
  • Maintain the city's accounting system in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Benefits

The City of Shoreview offers a competitive salary range of $128,752 - $171,850 annually, plus excellent benefits. This position is exempt from overtime pay.
