Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Claims Specialist to join our team at Markel. As a key member of our claims department, you will be responsible for resolving complex and high-exposure claims, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate resolutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations into loss facts and extent of damages
  • Analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions to stakeholders
  • Prepare coverage position letters and refer suspicious losses to SIU
  • Direct and monitor assignments to experts and outside counsel
  • Evaluate information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine insured's exposure
  • Negotiate and settle claims within authority
  • Represent Markel at mediations, trials, and conferences
  • Provide technical guidance and support to underwriting and claims teams
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plus
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license
  • Successful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) or participation in industry training opportunities
  • Minimum of 5 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
