Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Engineer to join our team at Gray Construction. As a Field Engineer, you will play a critical role in the success of our projects, working closely with our site management team to ensure that construction activities are executed safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Site Manager in layout of building items, including structural, civil, process, and architectural components.
  • Support the Site Manager in procurement of construction materials, ensuring timely delivery and accurate receiving reports.
  • Perform on-site material placed surveys, verifying quantities and reporting weekly or as directed by the Site Manager.
  • Assist the Site Manager in scheduling construction activities, monitoring material deliveries and subcontractor performance.
  • Develop bid lists, issue documents for procurement purposes, review bids, and evaluate proposals as directed by the Site Manager.
  • Assist the Site Manager in establishing and maintaining high safety and QA/QC standards, conducting safety meetings and reviewing shop drawings and submittals.
  • Help maintain a current set of red line as-built drawings, correlating and updating construction documents as needed.
  • May assist with general labor and clean up occasionally, and manage the jobsite in the absence of the Site Manager.
  • Perform and record Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) audits throughout the jobsite, ensuring satisfactory work.
  • Assist in performing the project's daily report and monthly man hour's report.
  • Able to make decisions regarding safety and quality on the spot, bringing out-of-spec issues to the attention of the ASM and SM.
  • Know and enforce the safety program, serving as on-site safety when necessary.
  • Conduct investigations into any and all safety incidents, producing accurate reports for the Site Manager and Project Management staff.
  • Work with city officials, OSHA, and inspectors throughout the duration of the project, ensuring all inspections are scheduled and conducted per project specifications.
  • Responsible for the communication, implementation, and enforcement of Gray's safety program on site.
  • Assumes ownership of scopes of work and management of subcontractors as assigned by the Site Manager.
  • Keeps up-to-date progress drawings of work put in place daily, utilizing bluebeam, excel, or assemble.
  • Generate meeting agendas/minutes from various site meetings for review by the Site Manager, ensuring timely and accurate distribution.
  • Able to receive verbal or written direction, as well as constructive criticism, from the Site Manager, and willing to provide such as needed/directed.
  • Bring any and all customer requested changes to the attention of the Site Manager and PM for appropriate contract action.
Requirements
  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and a minimum of 2 years of related construction experience, or 4+ years of relevant construction experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), tablets, and smartphones.
  • Strong work ethic, energetic, self-motivated individual who enjoys a team environment, and a passion for collaboration and professional development.
  • Ability to travel as projects are scattered throughout the United States and, in some cases, outside of the U.S.

While performing the duties of this position, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, reach, and talk or hear. They are regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The team member is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level is generally moderate to loud. Overtime may be required. Some travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Through counsel with the PM and SM, ensure the subcontractors are performing their work in accordance with the guidelines set forth in their contract.
