Position Summary

The Housing and Employment Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting clients of Goodwill Industries of Central Texas by addressing their fundamental needs and facilitating service coordination. This position focuses on aiding clients in achieving immediate housing stability, pursuing educational opportunities, job training, and securing employment-related services. The specialist collaborates closely with clients to create personalized service plans that encompass housing connections, educational goals, and employment aspirations, while also providing ongoing support throughout the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of clients, guiding them towards housing stability and addressing barriers through both short-term and long-term stabilization strategies.
  • Assist clients in their career development journey, including resume creation, job application processes, interview preparation, and enhancing employment-related soft skills. Maintain regular communication with clients in line with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop a strengths-based, solution-focused assessment and a tailored career plan that outlines both short and long-term objectives, as well as resources to facilitate their progress towards stabilization, education, training, and employment.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of local low-income housing options and trends to support clients' immediate and long-term stabilization needs.
  • Work in conjunction with relevant social services professionals to deliver essential services that promote housing and employment stability for clients.
  • Effectively intervene in crisis situations, creating appropriate interventions and follow-up plans to address immediate and future needs while ensuring safety.
  • Enroll clients in relevant programs, gather necessary information, and complete reports to meet or exceed performance targets set by Goodwill and other funding sources.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for all clients using client tracking databases, adhering strictly to data entry requirements and confidentiality protocols.
  • Engage in collaboration and communication with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Participate in community collaborations and inter-agency discussions that advance the mission of Goodwill and support client objectives.
  • Assess and analyze performance improvements in digital literacy and participant behavior related to career readiness and individual goals. Contribute to the enhancement of digital skills curriculum and training materials through research and updates.
  • Ensure client confidentiality and prepare necessary documents and reports as required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of agency policies and provide information and referrals for community-based services.
  • Network and collaborate effectively with community partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Windows-based applications.
  • Understanding of client assessment techniques, community resource coordination, housing stabilization support, career planning principles, employability skills, and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Familiarity with best practices for serving marginalized populations, including those experiencing homelessness, re-entry, opportunity youth, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License, a good driving record, liability insurance, and a reliable vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk and using a computer.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and verbal communication are required.
  • Ability to manage moderate levels of stress is essential. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
