The Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. This role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure quality blood samples are collected while creating a comfortable and trusting environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:- Collect blood samples from patients using established procedures
- Label, centrifuge, and store specimens according to test orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure accurate labeling
- Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature
- Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department trainings and participate in ongoing education
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed (required in CA, LA, NV, and WA)
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent patient interaction skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
