Paving Laborer Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Paving Laborer to join our team at H&K Group, Inc.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
  • Acquire tools needed for daily operations
  • Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight lines
  • Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications
  • Paving Duties: Assist with pre-run markings, use a paving lute to fine grade before roller man compacts, operate vibratory plate as needed, shovel asphalt as required, and direct traffic around work area as required
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution or one month of related experience and/or training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, quarries, or heavy manufacturing
  • Experience in paving and asphalt manufacturing strongly preferred
  • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
