Job Title: Heavy and Highway Laborer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy and Highway Laborer to join our team at The H&K Group. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to heavy and highway construction, including but not limited to:

Responsibilities:
  • Performing all work in accordance with OSHA and H&K Safety policies
  • Acquiring and maintaining tools needed for daily operations
  • Measuring distances, driving stakes, and stretching tight lines
  • Bolting, nailing, aligning, and blocking up under forms
  • Signaling operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
  • Leveling earth to fine grade specifications
  • Mixing and smoothing freshly poured cement or concrete
  • Positioning, joining, aligning, and sealing pipe sections
  • Erecting scaffolding, shoring, and braces
  • Paving duties, including assisting with pre-run markings, using a paving lute, operating a vibratory plate, shoveling asphalt, and directing traffic around the work area
  • Pipe duties, including getting tools needed for daily operations, setting up a pipe laser, operating a Wacker and jumping jack, using cut saws, prepping pipe for connection, shooting grades, and checking grades
Qualifications:
  • One month of related experience and/or training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Mathematical skills, including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to fit test and utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including movement, lifting, and other relevant tasks
