About the Job

The H&K Group is seeking a motivated Paving Laborer to join our team in the heavy civil construction industry. As a Paving Laborer, you will be responsible for performing various tasks on construction projects, including paving, asphalt manufacturing, and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in accordance with OSHA and H&K safety policies
  • Acquire tools needed for daily operations
  • Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch tight lines
  • Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
  • Level earth to fine grade specifications
  • Paving duties:
    • Assist with pre-run markings
    • Use a paving lute to fine grade before roller man compacts
    • Operate vibratory plate as needed
    • Shovel asphalt as required
    • Direct traffic around work area as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution OR One month of related experience and/or training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, quarries, or heavy manufacturing
  • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications
