About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Peer Support Specialist to join our team at NYC Health Hospitals. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting and advocating for consumers during crisis situations.

Job Summary

This position involves providing hope and support to mental health consumers through personal experience and empowerment. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will engage with consumers, help them set goals for their well-being, and promote wellness and recovery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage consumers and motivate them to set goals for their health and well-being
  • Assist consumers in seeking clarification about treatment and recovery processes
  • Promote empowerment by helping consumers identify strengths and goals
  • Gather information from consumers and help plan next-level care
  • Collaborate with other treatment team members for advocacy, referrals, and linkages
Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Satisfactory completion of a formalized Peer Counselor/Specialist Training Program
  • Certification as a Peer Specialist (NYCPS) or equivalent certification
