Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at UNC Lenoir Health Care. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory procedures and tests in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner, according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely laboratory services for patients, nursing staff, and medical staff of the hospital, as well as outside agencies affiliated with the hospital.
  • Perform laboratory procedures and tests, including phlebotomy, and ensure that all results are accurate and reliable.
  • Work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with the latest laboratory techniques and technologies.

Requirements:

  • Associates of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or 60 semester hours of college credit, including classes in chemistry and biology, and a one-year curriculum in clinical laboratory techniques or a twelve-month military medical laboratory-training program.
  • Registry preferred by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or an equivalent agency.
  • Two years of experience preferred.

Work Environment:

Due to indirect or direct contact, you may be at risk for exposure to tuberculosis, blood-borne pathogens (which include HIV and Hepatitis B), and/or other potential infectious diseases. Exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning). Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.

Physical Requirements:

  • Working and standing throughout shift.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds.
  • Responsible for lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects.
  • Moderate level of manual and finger dexterity.
  • High color discrimination.
