Assistant Professor of Kinesiology

UMass Amherst, a nationally ranked public research university, seeks a highly motivated and collaborative Assistant Professor to join the Kinesiology Department and Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS). The successful candidate will have a strong focus on the use of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging or spectroscopy for the study of critical questions in human movement with an emphasis on translational research.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and develop an active, high-impact research program at UMass Amherst with an independent base of support using funds from diverse sources.
- Be an active participant in the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring in IALS, which targets basic and translational studies of metabolism, human movement, aging, fatigue, and sleep.
- Contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in the Kinesiology Department, including overseeing graduate theses and dissertations, and undergraduate independent study and honors projects.
- Serve on departmental, IALS, SPHHS, and university committees, professional panels, and boards, as assigned or desired.
The Kinesiology Department is one of six departments in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, with a strong research focus on human movement, physiology, biomechanics, movement neuroscience, and physical activity and health. The Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) is a hub for interdisciplinary research, with three intellectual centers, including the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring, which engages faculty from departments across campus.
Requirements- PhD or equivalent degree in kinesiology or a related field at the time of appointment.
- Strong potential to develop an outstanding translational research program using human MR techniques.
- Interpersonal and communication skills that encourage strong collaborations in research, teaching, and program development.
