About the Role

Optum, a global organization, is seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our Alabama Enterprise Data Services team. As a Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in producing reports and developing analytics to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Analytic Business Users: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs and develop solutions to meet those needs.
  • Design and Develop Reports: Create accurate and timely reports using Power BI and other reporting platforms.
  • Support Data Processing and Reporting: Assist in data processing, pre-existing reporting, and customer-facing reports, dashboards, and analytics.
  • Collaborate with DBAs: Work with database administrators to create database views for end-users.
  • Validate Technical Development: Ensure new or enhanced technical development meets quality and accuracy standards.
  • Identify and Document Issues: Identify and document issues, patterns, and gaps in data and/or systems.
  • Demonstrate Data Literacy: Show expertise in understanding Medicaid Eligibility, Claims Processing, Federal reporting, Quality measures, and Gap closures.
  • Learn and Share Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on Optum and Agency products and share knowledge with team members.
Requirements
  • 3+ Years of Healthcare Payer Data Analysis Experience: Proven experience in analyzing Medicaid data, Medicare data, Healthcare Exchange data, or Commercial payer data.
  • 2+ Years of Reporting Requirements and Design Specifications: Gather reporting requirements and create design specifications.
  • 2+ Years of Developing Complex Reports: Develop complex reports in Power BI and other reporting platforms.
  • 1+ Years of Experience Explaining Complex Data Analysis Results: Explain complex data analysis results to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in Data Analysis Initiatives: Participate in data analysis initiatives to support reporting and analytics.
  • Experience with Relational Data and SQL Programming: Work with relational data and SQL programming (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Snowflake, or similar databases).
  • Experience Communicating Data Analysis Results: Communicate data analysis results, including trends and opportunities, to clients and colleagues.
  • Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle: Participate in the software development life cycle (Business Requirements, Technical Documentation, Quality Assurance).
  • Proven Ability to Perform Data Investigation: Perform data investigation, reverse engineering of program logic, and new development while adhering to development standards and good change control practice.
  • Proven Ability to Develop and Manage Multiple Projects: Develop and manage multiple projects with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Local to Montgomery, AL or Willing to Relocate: Be local to Montgomery, AL or willing to relocate to Montgomery, AL with the ability to work in the office 5 days a week (M-F).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced or Higher Level of Proficiency in SQL Programming: Advanced or higher level of proficiency in SQL programming, data analysis, and data management.
  • Solid Working Knowledge of Change, Incident, and Project Management Procedures: Solid working knowledge of change, incident, and project management procedures and best practices.
  • Knowledge of State Federal Reporting Requirements: Knowledge of state federal reporting requirements for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Proven Ability to Understand Data in Physical Tables or Views: Proven ability to understand data in physical tables or views and create/enhance stored procedures or functions pertaining to report feeds or input/output.
