Southeast Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center - We are seeking an Infection Prevention Specialist to enhance our dedicated care team.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Role Overview: As the Infection Prevention Specialist, you will plan, organize, develop, coordinate, direct, and assess our Infection Control Program and its components to ensure the maintenance of an effective Infection Prevention & Control Program.

Qualifications:

  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A current, unencumbered nursing license in this state and CPR certification are mandatory.
  • Experience or training in wound care is essential.
  • Certification in infection control and/or wound care is preferred, with two years of relevant experience being advantageous.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience in a long-term care setting is required.
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices is necessary.
  • A solid understanding of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques, including Standard Precautions, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and implement the comprehensive Infection Control and Prevention Program.
  • Report any infection-related issues to the Infection Control and Prevention Committee.
  • Maintain thorough documentation related to the Infection Control & Prevention Program.
  • Conduct monthly surveillance rounds to evaluate infection-related practices.
  • Keep the community informed about potentially hazardous infections.
  • Assist in educating staff on Infection Control Practices, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Coordinate and report on the Annual OSHA Sharps survey.
  • Manage Employee Health Records and participate in health and safety committees.
  • Review laboratory reports and ensure updated policy/procedure manuals are available.
  • Handle employee exposure follow-up procedures and review illness logs for trends.
  • Coordinate annual TB symptom surveys and assist in the influenza program.
  • Safeguard residents' individual health information.

Specific Requirements:

  • A current, unencumbered nursing license in this state is required.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in a timely manner is necessary.
  • Must be tactful in dealing with personnel, residents, families, and the public.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, laws, regulations, and guidelines related to long-term care and infection control is required.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills, along with a collaborative attitude, are essential.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret infection prevention programs is crucial.
  • Patience, tact, and a positive disposition are important, especially when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Willingness to seek and incorporate new methods into existing practices is necessary.
  • Effective communication skills regarding emergency situations are essential.
  • Strong resident assessment skills are required.
