Pharmacy Technician Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and delivery of medications to patients and nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and deliver medications to patients and/or nursing units
  • Work in different areas of pharmacy practice, including general and specialized areas
  • Provide convenient care to patients over the phone and through MyChart messaging
  • Serve patients safely, efficiently, and affordably
  • Process insurance claims and prepare new prescription and refill requests
  • Utilize automated dispensing robots to fill prescriptions
  • Packaging and mailing medications daily
  • Maintain inventory of medication and supplies
Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • 6 months minimum relevant experience required
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required
  • CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
Physical Demands:

The job requires standing for prolonged periods and proficiency in communicative, auditory, and visual skills. The ability to write legibly and lift/push/pull less than 20lbs is also required.
