Senior Accounting Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accounting Technician to join our team at the Modesto Irrigation District. As a key member of our Accounting Department, you will be responsible for performing technical and detailed work in support of district-wide accounting and accounts payable functions.
Key Responsibilities- Compile, tabulate, and enter statistical data into data entry equipment
- Verify and balance financial and management data to batch totals
- Process charge/credit tags, purchase orders, receive and open daily mail
- Prepare payment packages, including warrants/checks, cost studies, and weekly credit card summaries
- Research and solve problems related to accounts payable and basic accounting and mathematical calculations
- Prepare financial analysis spreadsheets and maintain and document accounts payable procedures
- Operate and use modern office equipment, including computers and applicable software
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and vendors
- Graduation from an accredited two-year community college with major coursework in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field
- Four years of experience in related work, with a minimum of two years of general accounting or financial experience
- Knowledge of accounts payable processes, W-9 forms, theory and practice of double-entry bookkeeping, generally accepted accounting principles, English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation
- Ability to research and solve problems in an efficient and timely manner, understand general and complex accounts payable procedures, and perform complex account reconciliations and basic data processing procedures
The successful applicant will be required to provide verification of high school diploma or GED and applicable higher education degree, pass a medical exam including a drug and alcohol screen, and a complete background check prior to beginning work.
