Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Operations Manager to join our team at Community Transit. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality transit services to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of transit professionals to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our fixed route transit services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve service quality, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with employees to interpret and monitor performance standards, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including local government officials, business leaders, and community organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • 4 years of supervisory or management experience in a union environment, or 3 years of general supervisory and management experience directly supervising union employees.
  • 2 years of transportation/transit industry experience.
  • Able to demonstrate a safe driving record, documented by a five-year driving records report obtained from any state licensed to operate a vehicle in the last five years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Washington State Commercial driver's license (must acquire within six months of hire).
  • No written discipline in the last three years.
  • Ability to work on-call and on weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Transit industry work experience.
  • Project management techniques and practices.
  • Transit operations.
  • Existing policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Community Transit system, including all routes and bid process.
  • Trapeze and APTS systems.
  • Presentation software applications (Microsoft PowerPoint or equivalent).
  • Understanding, interpreting, and applying contracts, laws, and regulations (such as Department of Transportation (DOT) rules).
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting and in a shop, operations base, or outdoors. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, and to stand and walk between buildings, bus stations or stops, and other locations. You may also be exposed to automotive fumes, odors, and dust, and may need to complete tasks in noisy environments and varying weather conditions. You may also be required to lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
