Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Firmware Software Engineer to join our team at Pfeiffer Vacuum Valves & Engineering (PV V&E). As a key member of our Engineering department, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and troubleshooting embedded software and firmware for our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software product designs, ensuring high-quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales and other Engineering disciplines, to facilitate concurrent design and customer-driven requirements.
  • Perform remote and on-site troubleshooting of existing products, identifying and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and troubleshooting of current and future products, ensuring seamless production processes.
  • Generate and maintain documentation for software product upgrades to customer-specific applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop real-time embedded software that implements pressure control, sensor processing, machine learning, and advanced functions of vacuum valves.
  • Design and implement automated tests to ensure high-quality software releases and accurate functionality.
  • Be involved in the full life-cycle of firmware development, from concept through integration, test, and release.
  • Architect a robust code base that allows efficient scaling and reusability across many products.
Requirements
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 60 months of experience in related Software Engineering, or evidence of high aptitude to learn combined with additional job-specific education.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with ability to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks within a limited schedule.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, subordinates, customers, and other departmental personnel.
  • Technical writing skills, including preparation of Engineering test protocols, Engineering test reports, and manufacturing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Familiarity with Engineering documentation processes, especially Software documentation such as block diagrams, flow charts, SW version control systems, and the like.
  • Familiarity with software test methodologies and architecture, including Jenkins environment with HIL.
  • Proficient with version control systems such as GIT or Subversion.
  • Ability to work with others in the department to share specific knowledge of products, processes, and/or procedures in order to continuously make improvements.
  • Prepare and conduct technical meetings/presentations.
  • Ability to effectively use MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or their equivalent).
  • Ability to communicate to others in acceptance of desired changes, improvements of software design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with embedded systems firmware/software, RTOS, and bare metal firmware.
  • Experience with C, C++, Python, LabVIEW, Matlab, Azure Cloud, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • Familiarity with stepper motor control and encoders, control systems, PID, MPC, machine learning, EtherCAT, Ethernet (TCP/IP), DeviceNet, Modbus, SPI, I2C, RS232, RS485, CAN, SCI, UART interfaces.
  • Experience with TI DSP C2000, C28x, TMS320x, TI Code Composer Studio, Keil, IAR, JTAG, Jenkins, HIL, ARM MCUs, and multimeters, oscilloscopes, and debugging tools.
Work Environment

This position requires 90% inside, climate/noise-controlled office, and 10% manufacturing environment. Lifting to 50 lbs on occasion may be required. Eye and hearing protection may be required, and other protective clothing required by customers. This position may work in various environments, including office, factory, or home settings.
