Job OverviewAssists the Unit Manager in overseeing the comprehensive foodservice operations within a corporate dining environment. Responsible for the overall guidance, coordination, and assessment of production within the unit. Executes supervisory duties in alignment with organizational policies and relevant regulations. Key responsibilities include the training and development of all associates, along with planning, assigning, and directing work.
Manages the department in accordance with the approved budget, ensuring maximum value for expenditures while providing superior quality food to clients, guests, and employees. Directs and implements safety, sanitation, and maintenance initiatives. Cultivates excellent relationships with employees, guests, and clients, as well as other departments within the operation. Promotes the professional growth and development of the entire team. Additionally, the assistant manager will enhance inter-departmental relations and integrate the dining service department with the overall operational plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluates unit performance through customer satisfaction metrics and financial reports, initiating corrective measures as necessary.
- Maintains high standards of product and service quality through ongoing assessments and complaint investigations, implementing corrective actions when needed.
- Develops and sustains sales and marketing initiatives.
- Assists the unit manager in maintaining a proactive human resources function to ensure employee motivation, training, development, and compliance with labor regulations.
- Establishes and upholds preventative maintenance programs to safeguard the unit's physical assets.
- Implements security measures to protect both the unit's assets and the safety of employees and customers.
- Facilitates effective two-way communication systems that reach all employees.
- Supports new initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
- Ensures compliance with established company policies and procedures.
- Oversees and participates in the preparation and service of food and beverage items, adhering to company standards for preparation, presentation, sanitation, and safety (including HACCP and OSHA guidelines) and portion control.
- Guarantees timely meal service across all service areas and supervises meal serving.
- Addresses customer complaints in accordance with established protocols.
- Trains employees in the proper execution of their job responsibilities.
- Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and streamlines workflow.
- Utilizes management systems for the completion of required reports such as inventory, cash reports, production records, and payroll.
- Ensures adherence to proper cash handling procedures, conducting drawer audits and balancing receipts/change funds/petty cash as per company policy.
- Orders food and supplies from approved sources.
- Directs and participates in maintaining sanitation and safety standards for the facility and employees in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Develops sanitation schedules and ensures adherence by food service employees.
- Ensures regular preservice meetings are conducted.
- Assists the Unit Manager with hiring, training, evaluating, and discharging staff (discharges require review by the District Manager & Human Resources).
- Bachelor's degree in food service, nutrition, or a related field is preferred.
- 2-4 year degree in HRIM or culinary is preferred.
- 3-5 years of progressive hospitality experience is desired.
- Must possess a valid Food Handler's Permit.
- Demonstrated ability in profit and loss management and client relations is essential.
- Requires operations management experience with purchasing knowledge.
- Excellent communication and computer skills are necessary, including proficiency in MS Office products.
Essential Food Safety Practices:
- Must possess a valid Food Handler's Permit.
- Current Serv Safe Certification.
- Adhere to all HACCP policies and procedures.
- Manage daily and monthly food safety training.
- Comply with company food standards for preparation, presentation, sanitation, and safety (meeting HACCP and OSHA guidelines) and portion control.
- Order food and supplies exclusively from Compass-approved sources.
- Meet all regulatory requirements for food safety.
- Pass local jurisdiction and third-party inspections.
