Position Summary:

The Substitute Educator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in the classroom. This position involves active participation in various program activities, including direct engagement with children, families, and staff, while adhering to compliance standards set by relevant agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Child Interaction:
  1. Engage in all aspects of child care, including feeding and positioning.
  2. Integrate therapy recommendations into daily routines.
  3. Utilize developmentally appropriate practices.
  4. Implement the High/Scope curriculum effectively.
  5. Develop and execute the Family Support Plan.
  6. Conduct assessments to evaluate each child's needs.
Family Engagement:
  1. Act as a resource for families in developing the Family Support Plan.
  2. Maintain regular communication regarding children's progress.
  3. Participate in parent education and support initiatives.
  4. Foster positive relationships with families.
Collaboration with Staff:
  1. Supervise paraprofessionals and model effective practices.
  2. Work collaboratively with co-teachers and support staff.
  3. Implement best practices as recommended by therapists.
Compliance with Agencies:
  1. Adhere to health and safety standards as per guidelines.
  2. Maintain necessary documentation for funding sources.
Training and Development:
  1. Complete initial orientation and ongoing training.
  2. Incorporate new training into classroom practices.

Physical and Training Requirements:

  • Must have a TB test.
  • Ability to bend, squat, and sit on the floor.
  • Capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Must remain alert to ensure children's safety.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exceptional Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
  • State Certification as a Professional Educator preferred.
  • Infant CPR and First Aid certification required.

Compensation: Salary based on experience and qualifications.
