Senior Underwriter for Construction Liability

Zurich Insurance Company Ltd is in search of a seasoned Construction Liability Underwriter at the Senior Level III or AVP Level IV to enhance our National Accounts division. This position offers flexibility for remote work.

This role will be classified as either a Senior Construction Liability Underwriter (Level III) or an AVP, Construction Liability Underwriter (Level IV). The hiring manager will assess the suitable level based on the applicant's expertise and qualifications.

As a Senior or AVP Construction Liability Underwriter, you will leverage your marketing and analytical capabilities. Your responsibilities will include evaluating and underwriting both new and renewal business, guided by The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework, while ensuring exceptional service delivery to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and enforce underwriting standards, guidelines, and compliance with relevant insurance regulations.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with Line of Business representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Build and sustain connections with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and growth.
  • Contribute to the organization's sales culture by serving as a resource for agents, brokers, and clients.
  • Actively pursue renewal and new business opportunities.
  • Conduct thorough assessments with key distributors to pinpoint growth potential.
  • Evaluate accounts to align with the organization's risk appetite while identifying viable business opportunities.
  • Engage in broker/customer interactions with a clear and strategic purpose.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Level III:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 5 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • OR High School Diploma or Equivalent with at least 10 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
  • OR Completion of Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • OR Completion of Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience managing time-sensitive quotes for new and renewal business.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications for AVP Level IV:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • OR High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
  • OR Completion of Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5 years in Underwriting or Market Facing roles.
  • OR Completion of Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12 years in Claims or Underwriting Support.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Technical expertise in commercial Construction Liability Underwriting.
  • Established relationships with brokers in the relevant market.
  • Sales-oriented mindset.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
